Everton v Chelsea Player Ratings

Tim Howard 8

After last week’s howler, the American was back to his best to deny Chelsea.

Phil Neville 8

His crunching tackle on Ashley Cole in the build-up to Everton’s second goal was one of the moments of the match.

John Heitinga 8.5

A confident and commanding performance from the Dutch international. Didn’t put a foot wrong all afternoon.

Sylvain Distin 9

An absolute colossus in the heart of defence. Strong in the air and ensured Torres endured another torrid afternoon in front of goal.

Leighton Baines 8.5

Strong defensively but equally potent going forward. The Baines- Pienaar partnership is a joy to watch.

Darron Gibson 7

Gibson’s arrival has allowed Fellaini more freedom through the middle, but he still lacks sharpness and was the weak link in midfield.

Marouane Fellaini 9

Fellaini is a joy to watch in this form. Linked the play between attack and defence perfectly.

Tim Cahill 9

The midfielder’s best game in a blue shirt for some time. Despite being forced off in the last game through injury, the Australian ran himself into the ground and was a constant thorn in Chelsea’s side.

Landon Donovan 8.5

The American’s best game since returning for his second spell at the club. Ran rings around Ashley Cole and played some exquisite football. Beautiful vision to set up Stracqualursi for Everton’s second.

Steven Pienaar 9.5

A midfield masterclass from a player who is clearly revelling in playing football back at Everton. Opened the scoring after just 4 minutes with a beautiful finish and was at the heart of Everton’s attacking moves, but worked equally as hard tracking back and helping out defensively. Received a standing ovation when substituted late in the second half.

Denis Stracqualursi 9

Undoubtedly still has question marks over his footballing ability, but what he lacks in technique, he more than makes up for with work rate and endeavour. Fully deserved to get on the score sheet for his effort alone.

Substitutes

Royston Drenthe 6 Will have to work much harder in his cameo appearances than this if he wants to challenge for a starting place in the team.

Tony Hibbert- replaced Gibson after 89 minutes

Shane Duffy- replaced Stracqualursi on 90 minutes
