Wigan v Everton Player Ratings

Tim Howard 6

Didn’t have too much to do, but left hopelessly exposed by a wicked bobble for Wigan’s opener.

Tony Hibbert 7

Solid display. Sacrificed in the second half when Everton needed a goal.

John Heitinga 7

Lucky not to be penalised for what seemed to be an obvious handball, but otherwise an assured display.

Sylvain Distin 8

Great to see the Frenchman back in the heart of defence. Adds assurance and pace.

Leighton Baines 8

Great to see him rekindle his partnership with Pienaar again.

Darron Gibson 7

Some nice passing, but equally guilty of some sloppy play.

Marouane Fellaini 8

At the heart of Everton’s best passing moves. Worked tirelessly to create opportunities.

Tim Cahill 7

Often not given enough credit for the unsung work he does breaking down opposition attacks. Worked tirelessly in the first half before an injury forced him out of the second.

Landon Donovan 7.5

Always looked capable of threading through a vital pass to create an attacking opportunity. Tired in the second half.

Steven Pienaar 8.5

Slotted back into the team like he’d never been away. Lack of match fitness showed at times, but a potent atttacking threat throughout.

Denis Stracqualursi 7

There’s no doubting the work ethic, but there are still many question marks over the footballing ability.

Substitutes

Phil Neville 7 Comes in for some unnecessary flack, but adds experience and stability to the team.

Nikica Jelavic 7 Struggled to get involved, but showed a good first touch and will undoubtedly improve with more games.

Victor Anichebe 7 Took his goal well, but still needs to show more effort when Everton are on the attack. Not enough movement in crucial areas.
