Utterly devastated and still finding it hard to accept Gary is no longer with us. Heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends who must be inconsolable at their loss.
Growing up, I idolised Gary and was fortunate to meet him on many occasions over the years. As an Evertonian, to see him captain his boyhood team was as much a privilege for me as it was for him. Equally, his passion and pride for the national side was all too evident and I was thrilled when he took over the mantle as manager.
Only two weeks ago, I sat in the post-match press conference after the Norway game and listened to him speak enthusiastically about the World Cup campaign ahead, in which I have no doubt he’d have taken Wales to the next step.
I was left numb on hearing the news of his untimely death.
Football has lost one of its legends; a true professional who was a credit to himself and the game and who was highly regarded by everyone who met him.
Rest in peace Gary, you will be greatly missed by all who knew you xxx
